Ludwig Catalogue CDs by Clay Taylor GreeneA VISTALITES.COM gear review by Andy YouellClay Taylor Greene is a noted drum historian and runs the Ludwig Drummer web site.
Drum catalogues provide an invaluable glimpse of the detail of vintage drum configurations as well as a flavour of the marketing used to promote these drums. Clay Taylor Greene - with the full support of the Ludwig Drum Company - has assembled an awesome collection of Ludwig catalogues on these CDs. Vistalites are well represented in the 1970s material, but the real value of these CDs is the ability to track the development of the Ludwig drum and percussion line right back to the 1920s. You can see how both the drums and their marketing developed through the eras of jazz, big-band, Beatlemania, disco and the 1980s (when hair was big and drum kits looked like oil rigs). The product has a very professional feel about it with clear instructions, a strong design theme and very high quality scans. Whatever your particular drum interest, these are a huge reference source and - given the price of vintage catalogues on the market today - they represent incredible value for money. You can contact Clay and order a copy of the CDs via the Ludwig Drummer web site. |
