Other Acrylic Drums - Wooding

Thanks to Winnie Mensink, Bob Henrit, Paolo Sburlati, Harold Rydell, Dave Seville, Tam Rankin & Massimo Gaudiano who have all been in touch to supply information about Wooding drums.

Wooding was a part of the Meazzi company based in Italy, though the drums were actually built by Caldironi. Meazzi were more famous for their 'Hollywood' and 'HiPercussion' sets in the 1970's and the Wooding brochure (courtsey of hidehitters.com) describes them as "Hollywood Wooding" drums. Production of Wooding drums stopped around 1980 and the Meazzi company folded in 2000.

The front cover of the catalogue contains the full name: "Hollywood Wooding Cristalline" (though the full full name "Caldironi Meazzi Hollywood Wooding Cristalline" does not appear - probably just as well.)

The text inside says:

DRUMS for GIANTS: Made of crystallized material, these drum sets are as brilliant as Bohemian Glass and have therefore been called CRYSTALLINE. Thrilling, impressive, dazzling drums, not only because of the wonderful light effects due to the special material shells are made of, but also because of the outstanding and particulary modern sound. Light effects can be enhanced by the use of colour spots.

Well - there you have it !

The plot thickens on the back cover with the "Hollywood Wooding Pop" kit looking distinctly wooden to me.....

Massimo Gaudiano has sent me a picture of a Wooding kit in a "smoke" finish.
