The Keith Moon "Vistalites full of goldfish" incident
The pictures below are stills from an old tape of the infamous Keith Moon & Vistalites & Goldfish incident. The facts about this are somewhat difficult to pin down with different accounts of this story differing in many ways. According to the excellent Tony Fletcher biography 'Dear Boy', Moon was performing on the US TV show 'Midnight Special' in 1975 with Ringo Starr, though he does not appear in this clip. Different accounts of the incident have different drums involved; it's known that Moon bought a couple of Zickos kits and he also had some Vistalites. The toms are Vistalite concert toms - it looks as though he's got sizes 6 to 16 on a rack system. The goldfish themselves are in a floor tom to the left of the hi-hat which doesn't appear to get played at all throughout the brief solo. Moon himself has his face pianted with cats whiskers and, when an audience member quizzes him about the fish, his response is "Even the best drummers get hungry sometimes...!"
