2006 Great Dorset Steam Fair

Before we made our way to Dorset, there was a day of engine polishing to undertake.

A magnificent example of historic engineering - and a steam engine

We got the engine into steam and drove out of the village to meet the lorry. Loading took about half an hour.

The vintage living van was our base for the week.

The steam ploughing took place at one edge of the fair on the side of a hill.

The view was magnificent from the top of the hill.

A cultivator being pulled up the hill by one of the engines.

At the end of the day we filled the tin bath with hot water from the engine.

The first bather enjoyed clean water...

...but things turned worse later.

In the evenings we headed into the fair - a magnificent sight....

...with steam organs and dancing girls....

....and lots....

...and lots of highly polished engines....

...and vintage (steam powered) attractions.

The electricity generated by the engines powered the fairground attractions - this engine produced about 20 kilowatts.
